Eco-Green Living Launches Affordable Green Housing Project; November 19

Washington, DC – Construction begins this week on two new homes in Ward 8 that will incorporate innovative green technology to ensure maximum energy-efficiency and a toxin-free environment.  The collaborative construction project is designed to demonstrate that green building and energy efficient designs can be affordable and sustainable for all American families.

“Neighborhoods like those in Ward 8 are too often left out of the greening of America.  Traditionally used as toxic dumping grounds, these communities are usually the last to benefit from new green technologies and the jobs it generates,” said Keith Ware, Co-Owner of Eco-Green Living, the DC Metro region’s premier store for green building, energy-efficiency, and design products.  “These homes will change that by providing modern design that is free of toxins and built with energy saving devices that will significantly reduce monthly energy bills.”

The two 3,500 square foot homes are being built green from the ground up and once completed, the two homes will be made available to two families: one that utilizes Section 8 supports, and the family of a disabled veteran.

The new home designs are designed using a revolutionary structural building panel system called Wallpanel.   The Wallpanel system, created by Supertherm, will enable the main structure of each home to be constructed in a single day, saving-time and money in the construction process.  The Wallpanel system boasts an insulative R value between 19 and 70 on a four or six inch wall.  The homes will include other energy-saving Supertherm products in addition to other green elements.

On Thursday, November 19 at 11:00 a.m. Keith Ware will conduct a tour of the homes under construction to highlight the elements and technologies being employed to ensure the homes are both green and affordable. The tour will take place at 251 Valley Avenue, SE in Washington, DC.

Homeowner Perry Dixon, Wallpanel creator Roberto Guerra, and Arthur Wittenberg, Producer and Host of Home Magic, a home design television show that will air in the DC area beginning in January, will also be on hand to discuss green design and the importance of ensuring these technologies are accessible by all families.

Mr. Ware was recently signed as the Environmental Host of the Home Magic TV show.
